Afgelopen week wist LetsGoDigital te rapporteren dat LG een drietal merknamen heeft aangevraagd voor de namen LG Flex, Foldi en Duplex. Een dag later kwam daar nog de trademark LG Bendi bij. Dit worden waarschijnlijk de modelnamen van LG’s opvouwbare smartphone(s). Recentelijk heeft LG ook een nieuw patent toegewezen gekregen voor een soortgelijke opvouwbare smartphone als we begin dit jaar tegenkwamen, dit keer is het toestel echter geheel randloos.
LG opvouwbare smartphone met dubbel display
Vandaag rapporteren we over een nieuw patent van LG aangaande een opvouwbare smartphone met een full screen flexibel display dat om de gehele behuizing gebogen wordt. Het design patent is aangevraagd in thuisland Korea en lijkt een nieuwe variant te zijn van het patent dat we begin dit jaar bespraken.
LG Display heeft bij de KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) een design patent ingediend voor een ‘randloze opvouwbare smartphone’. Het patent is op 23 oktober 2018 toegekend en gepubliceerd. Zoals altijd het geval is bij een design patent worden er alleen schetsen bijgeleverd, een uitgebreide omschrijving ontbreekt helaas.
Opvouwbare LG smartphone met full screen ontwerp
De patentschetsen tonen een randloze smartphone met een flexibel scherm. Het betreft één groot flexibel display, dat alle vier de zijdes van de smartphone bedekt. Mogelijk dat de display magnetisch tegen de behuizing wordt geplaatst. Het scherm kan uitgevouwen worden tot tablet formaat.
Eenmaal uitgevouwen heb je een groot display tot je beschikking. De behuizing zelf kan echter niet vouwen. Opengevouwen heb je aan de linkerzijde dus de behuizing en de display, terwijl je aan de rechterzijde alleen een flexibel display hebt. Het ontwerp is dan ook beduidend anders dan die van Royole en Samsung, beide fabrikanten toonden eerder deze maand hun opvouwbare smartphone ontwerp.

Voor de goede orde, het design patent van LG Display is op dit moment alleen in Korea toegekend. Via de reguliere weg zal de patentaanvraag over ongeveer één jaar in de WIPO database gepubliceerd worden. Mocht LG een dergelijk toestel willen lanceren, dan zal er dus nog wel enige tijd overheen gaan. Hoewel het natuurlijk ook mogelijk is dat het bedrijf eerst een opvouwbare smartphone mét bezel introduceert, dat zich door de tijd heen zal evolueren tot een full screen smartphone zoals we in dit patent zien.
Volgens de laatste geruchten zal LG haar eerste opvouwbare smartphone op CES 2019 tentoonstellen. Een maand later lijkt Huawei te volgen. De Chinese fabrikant zal waarschijnlijk de MWC 2019 aangrijpen om de eerste opvouwbare Huawei smartphone te onthullen. Overigens, ook Huawei heeft vandaag de namen van haar opvouwbare smartphone gedeponeerd; Huawei Mate Flex, Mate Flexi, Mate Fold en Mate F.

Last week LetsGoDigital reported that LG has filed three trademarks for the names LG Flex, Foldi and Duplex. One day later the company also filed a trademark for LG Bendi. These will probably be the names for LG’s foldable and flexible smartphone devices.
Today we report on a new patent from LG regarding a foldable phone with a large borderless flexible display that is wrapped around the entire housing. The patent describes a similar foldable smartphone model as we have reported on beginning of this year. This time the device has very small bezels.
LG Display has filed the design patent with KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office), the patent was granted and published on 23 October 2018.
The patent sketches show a bezel-less smartphone with a large flexible screen that covers all four sides of the smartphone. The screen can be unfolded to tablet format. However, the housing itself can’t fold.
Unfolded you have the housing and the display on the left, while on the right you only have a flexible display. The design is therefore significantly different from that of Royole and Samsung, both manufacturers showed their foldable smartphone design earlier this month.
For the record, the LG Display design patent is currently only granted in Korea. Via the regular route the patent application will be published in the WIPO database in about one year from now.

렛츠고디지털(LetsGoDigital)은 LG전자가 벤디(Bendi), 플렉스(Flex), 폴디(Foldi), 듀플렉스(Duplex)라는 4건의 상표 등록을 출원했다고 보도했다. 이 4종은 LG전자가 출시할 예정인 폴더블폰의 이름으로 짐작된다.
LG 벤디는 접을 수 있다는 의미인 구부리다(Bend)에 초점을 맞춘 것으로 보인다.
디자인 특허출원은 한국 특허청에서 진행되었고 2018년 10월 23일 출원되었다.
LG스마트폰의 특허 내용은 베젤이 없는 대화면의 스마트폰으로 접을 수 있고 펼치면 태블릿 형태가 된다. 가장 큰 특징은 케이스는 그대로 두고 화면만 접었다 펼치는 형태라는 점이다. 기존의 로욜이나 삼성전자의 폴더블폰과는 사뭇 다르다.
LG전자의 독자적인 폴더블 폰의 화면 디자인 특허는 현재 한국에서만 인정된다.
